Which School District Is My Fort Worth Address In?

By Brent Reiter, REALTOR® · Last updated November 4, 2026

A "Fort Worth, TX" address doesn't tell you the school district. The City of Fort Worth is served by 13 independent school districts, and Fort Worth ISD covers less than half of the city's land. Here's which district covers which part of town, how each one is rated, and how to check a specific address before you buy.

    Why the Address Isn't Enough

Three different lines get mixed up: the mailing city on the address, the city limits, and the school district boundary. They don't line up. Many zip codes are split between districts:

    • 76135 is split among Fort Worth, Eagle Mountain-Saginaw, Lake Worth and Azle ISDs
    • 76137 is split among Fort Worth, Keller and Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISDs
    • 76108 is split between Fort Worth and White Settlement ISDs
    • 76131 touches Northwest, Eagle Mountain-Saginaw and Keller ISDs

The Tarrant Appraisal District's property record lists the school district that taxes each property, which is the fastest way to confirm the district. The district's own lookup tool then tells you the specific campuses, which can change from year to year.

How to Check a Specific Address

    1. Look up the property at tad.org. The record shows the school district (ISD) that taxes it.
    2. Use the district's address lookup to see the elementary, middle and high school for the coming school year (links below).
    3. Check each campus rating at txschools.gov. District ratings average a wide range of campuses.
    4. Watch for boundary changes. Fort Worth ISD is consolidating schools through 2029, Northwest ISD adopted new boundaries for 2026-27, and Eagle Mountain-Saginaw redrew middle school zones for 2026-27.
    5. Ask about transfers if you're set on a specific school. Each district has its own transfer rules and deadlines.

Fort Worth ISD and Lake Worth ISD Under State Boards

On March 24, 2026, the Texas Education Agency appointed a nine-member board of managers to run Fort Worth ISD, suspending the elected trustees' powers, and named Dr. Peter Licata superintendent. The state acted under a 2015 law that requires intervention after a campus has years of unacceptable ratings. There's no fixed end date; the board stays until the district meets exit criteria for campus performance and reading and math scores.

Lake Worth ISD went under a state board of managers on April 23, 2026, after one of its campuses received a fifth straight unacceptable rating. Neither change moves school boundaries, but both are worth watching if you're buying in those districts.

School Districts and Your Tax Bill

The school district is also the biggest line on your property tax bill, and Fort Worth's 13 districts have 2026 rates ranging from about $1.03 to $1.29 per $100 of value. Two similar homes on either side of a district line can owe noticeably different taxes. See Fort Worth property taxes explained for every district's rate and a worked example.

In parts of far west Fort Worth (including some of the Walsh area), the city has annexed land for limited purposes only. Those homes pay no city property tax but also don't get full city services. Check the city-limits status along with the school district.
